Are frozen wind turbines to blame for power outages in Texas?

Updated: Apr 9, 2021

Lot of misinformation is going around blaming windmills is the cause of power outages. I knew wind is a considerable source of energy in Texas, roughly one third. So when I first heard that stuck wind turbines are a leading cause of power outages, I thought to myself, yes it sounds plausible, but when I start to do some research, there are a lot of factors that resulted in power outages including non-operational power plants due to routine maintenance in winter, power plants not optimized to work in such extreme low temperatures and there are not enough natural gas stores on site.

So before making up your mind one way or the other, please do your research. Rely on credible news outlets rather than anecdotal evidence. You can find more information regarding the reasons for the outages at USA TODAY and The Texas Tribune

I sincerely hope this will be a wake up call for the folks who are on the wrong side of climate crisis. Just image this being our new normal!
